Community Engagement

We aren’t just “moving in” because a space is available. We want to become a central part of the community. We want the Asher to be the go-to place for community gatherings, educational workshops, speakers, spiritual retreats, etc. We believe that every good business grows only as its community grows and that a business’s success (or lack thereof) is in direct proportion to its involvement in its community. For this reason, we are committed to and always looking for partnership opportunities with the community and we welcome ideas on collaboration, initiatives, or projects that will advance people and youth who reside in Myrtle Beach and our neighboring communities.

Light Talk Series

This series will feature a renown guest speaker who will engage and encourage the community on a variety of topics. This will be open to the public and the entire community is welcomed to attend. Our mission for the Light Talk Series is to unite our community with cultural, spiritual, and even governmental inflections. This series is open to families and children and there is no age limit. All are welcome.

The James Stephens Scholarship Foundation

The James Stephens III Scholarship Foundation, a long-standing not-for-profit organization, was established by Mr. James Stephens to make a difference in the lives of South Carolina youth by awarding educational scholarships. For 30 years, Stephens and supporters have contributed more than $500,000 in scholarship awards and laptop computers. The foundation is regularly seeking ways to assist students with educational workshops, books, supplies, and other necessary means to help them succeed.

No single factor is more important to the intellectual and economic progress of society — and to the enhanced well-being of its citizens — than the continuous education of our youth. For 30 years, the James Stephens III Scholarship Foundation has been proud to be a major part of that process and now The Asher Theatre is proud to be a supporter of this vital foundation.

The Global Christian Professional Women’s Association

The Global Christian Professional Women’s Association is a registered 501(c)(3) organization and is the leading resource for serving and advancing Christian professional women worldwide. Their first-of-its-kind global community was established with one goal in mind: to empower and support professional women of faith. GCPWA is actively connected to more than 25,000 women representing 50 countries.

GCPWA’s biblically based service initiatives are focused on caring for orphans and widows based on James 1:27. Our greatest achievement to-date has been the establishment of the State of South Carolina’s first Reading Room for orphaned children, which was birthed from GCPWA’s unique partnership with the Horry County Department of Social Services. Their work extends beyond the borders of the United States and they have intentional partnerships with several overseas fair trade organizations as well. In 2017 they launched GCPWA India – their first international chapter.
